Eco Friendly Green Drilling Mud Replaces Oil Based Mud in Haynesville Shale Project

Rapid Energy Services announced the field application of its Quantum EF drilling mud in a Haynesville Shale drilling project. The Quantum EF uses plant derived ingredients and a water phase to replace diesel oil based muds. The Quantum EF is an eco friendly drilling mud engineered to replace oil based drilling mud. The Quantum EF residual on cuttings can be incorporated into local soil as a beneficial soil amendment.

Lafayette, Louisiana (PRWEB) July 6, 2009 -- Rapid Energy Services, LLC today announced the commercial use of its Quantum EF drilling mud system as a environmentally sound alternative to diesel oil based muds in a Haynesville Shale drilling project.

Quantum EF uses all natural, plant-derived ingredients to provide a drilling fluid that is totally biodegradable. The major phase of the Quantum EF is water and the minor phase, approximately 20 percent, are plant derived ingredients.

Quantum EF exhibit properties which include a unique combination of superior shale inhibition, low coefficient of friction, mud weight capabilities of up to 16.5 pounds per gallon and temperature stability up to 350 degrees. Independent testing shows the biodegradable carbon content of Quantum EF to be greater than 90 percent, making it a very biodegradable substitute for diesel oil muds.

The unique properties of Quantum EF drilling fluid reduced the total number of days required to drill the directional well by 20 percent when compared to similar off set wells drilled using diesel oil based muds.

"Our goal is supply oil and gas companies with a functional equivalent to diesel oil muds that provide improved performance and can be used in areas with strict environmental limits, Quantum EF is proving it can achieve this goal", says President and Chief Technology Officer David Trahan.

Quantum EF meets all requirements set out in the State of Louisiana's 29-B regulations for disposal of drill waste using a mix, bury and cover method, greatly reducing drilling operators cost of post job disposal.

In Canada, the Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan have approved the disposal of Quantum EF drill waste using the Residual Solids Disposal method.

Rapid Energy Services is a specialty fluid development and service company that supplies products and services to drilling, frac services, and pipeline customers in the US and Canada.
