Phoenix Park Takes Historic Mill Redevelopment to Next Step with One of Massachusetts Largest Solar Energy Facilities

506kW Solar Rooftop - to be installed by Alteris using Massachusetts manufactured technology - to power green business park

Shirley, MA (PRWEB) November 2, 2009 -- Phoenix Park, a green business park developed from a historic cotton mill complex in Shirley Massachusetts, is announcing the addition of a 506kW solar electricity system as a flagship effort in a long string of energy efficiency work at the complex. The installation of solar panels at Phoenix Park is scheduled to begin later this month.

The solar energy system is being installed by Alteris Renewables, recently ranked as the fastest growing renewable energy company in the Northeast. The system includes 2,530 Evergreen 200 Watt Solar Panels and Solectria Renewables Photovoltaic Inverters. Phoenix Park's choice of Massachusetts-made components from Evergreen and Solectria bolsters and reinforces the state's leadership position in the nation's growing green economy.

"Phoenix Park is committed to driving the Massachusetts green industry forward by hiring stellar local businesses for its green building and renewable energy initiatives," said Eric Shapiro, managing partner of Phoenix Park. "By targeting leading innovative green companies as tenants, we're creating a valuable network and hub for this burgeoning industry."

The system is expected to offset approximately 50 percent of the total electrical load at the location. Over the lifetime of the system it will offset over 950,000 pounds of CO2 or the equivalent of planting 52,000 trees and eliminating the burning of over 9,800 gallons of gasoline each year.

The falling price of solar panels, partial funding from the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust, and a combination of business tax credits helped make this investment possible for Phoenix Park.
