Post Office Ski Report Reveals Eastern Europe Offers Best Bargains For To Make Travel Money Go Further

Stable foreign exchange rates have led Romania to be named the cheapest ski destination

London, UK (PRWeb UK/PRWEB ) November 1, 2009 -- Post Office Travel Services' annual Ski Resort Report has revealed that UK skiers looking to get the most out of their travel money should head east. Favourable foreign exchange rates mean that resorts in Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Slovenia will be the cheapest for bargain hunters.

The Post Office Travel Services report found that £195.76 will get you kitted out with ski holiday staples including equipment hire, lift passes, meals and drinks at Romania's Poiana Brasov. The ski resort is ranked as the cheapest destination for UK skiers. The Post Office cites stable foreign exchange rates and low resort costs as the reasons behind Romania's number one ranking in the report.

The weakness of sterling's foreign exchange rate against many types of foreign currency has affected prices in most resorts surveyed for the report. For example, skiers planning trips to Norway should expect to see the most impact on their travel money, as sterling has slumped by 19 per cent against the krone. However, despite unfavourable foreign exchange rates against the euro, the Post Office report reveals that some eurozone countries can still be good value for UK skiers looking to get the most from their travel money. Prices have stayed the same in Italian resort La Thuile, making it the cheapest of the mainstream European ski destinations for the second year running.

Although favourable foreign exchange rates mean that Eastern European resorts may offer skiers better value for their travel money than many western resorts, Post Office Head of Travel Services Sarah Munro says: "The foreign exchange rate should not be the only issue when planning a ski holiday. It is worth comparing the prices of ski equipment hire and lift passes in different resorts as these can make a big difference to the overall cost of a ski holiday.

"While bargain hunters will still find the lowest prices in Romania and Bulgaria, price should not be the only issue when planning a ski holiday. It's also important of course to choose a resort that matches your ability and expectations."
