Sleep Experts' "Share the Warmth" Blanket Drive to Comfort Families Affected by Domestic Violence

Mattress retailer Sleep Experts invites the Dallas-Fort Worth community to "Share the Warmth" with victims of family violence, during the company's 6th annual Blanket Drive, which kicks off November 2 and continues through Thanksgiving. This year's drive is receiving support from Jason Witten's SCORE Foundation and the Texas Rangers, with pitchers Scott Feldman and Tommy Hunter joining the efforts.

Carrollton, TX (PRWEB) October 30, 2009 -- Mattress retailer Sleep Experts invites the Dallas-Fort Worth community to "Share the Warmth" with victims of family violence, during the company's 6th annual Blanket Drive, which kicks off November 2 and continues through Thanksgiving. Throughout the drive, Sleep Experts will be collecting donations of new or gently used blankets, as well as sheets, towels and comforters at its 34 D/FW locations and distributing them to North Texas domestic violence shelters, including SafeHaven of Tarrant County, The Family Place in Dallas, New Beginning Center in Garland, and Denton County Friends of the Family.

Share the Warmth kicks off November 2 with a special event from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. CT at the Sleep Experts Arlington Highlands store located at I-20 and Matlock Road. For map to location visit the Sleep Experts Arlington Highlands store page. Members of the community are invited to come out and drop off a blanket and enjoy family-friendly entertainment. Autographed memorabilia from Dallas Cowboys' Jason Witten and Texas Rangers' Scott Feldman and Tommy Hunter will be available in limited supply to those who make a blanket donation.

This year Share the Warmth is receiving additional support from Jason Witten's SCORE Foundation, which provides support and mentoring services at domestic violence shelters across Texas. Texas Rangers pitchers Scott Feldman and Tommy Hunter are also joining the efforts to support this important cause. Tommy Hunter will be attending the Monday kick-off event and Scott Feldman will participate in a blanket delivery to SafeHaven of Tarrant County later in the month.

"It is an honor for my wife Michelle and I to be involved with such a great program as the Share the Warmth Blanket Drive," said Jason Witten. "Through the SCORE Foundation, we have tried to fight the tragic effects of domestic violence by caring for its victims. That's what this blanket drive is all about. The SCORE Foundation believes that by making the women and children affected by abuse more comfortable, then you can help begin the healing process."

"Many of us take for granted that we have a bed to sleep in and a blanket to keep us warm, but for families forced to flee their homes and seek shelter from violence, these basic needs would not be available without the help of domestic violence shelters and support from the North Texas community," said Christine Cook, wife, mom and president of Sleep Experts. "As we enter the sixth year of our blanket drive, we hope that families will continue to turn out to make a donation and Share the Warmth with a family in crisis."

Sharing the Gift of Sleep
Share the Warmth is one of several ways in which Sleep Experts supports the community by sharing the gift of sleep with those in need. Through its Rest Assured program the company recycles every customer's old mattress and donates it to one of more than 20 area non-profit organizations that nurture and care for children and families in crisis.

"As one of the largest domestic violence shelters in Texas, SafeHaven of Tarrant County serves thousands of victims each year at our two emergency shelters in Arlington and Fort Worth," said Mary Lee Hafley, Executive Director of SafeHaven. "We are so grateful to Sleep Experts and the D/FW community for their donations of blankets, mattresses and other items that provide these families with a feeling of comfort and safety that they may not find at home."
