European Commission VP Verheugen, Jeremy Rifkin, and 90 Global Corporations Announce Third Industrial Revolution Green New Deal December 9th, Brussels

European Commission Vice-President Verheugen, The French Presidency of the European Council, and the Newly Formed Third Industrial Revolution Global CEO Business Roundtable, chaired by Jeremy Rifkin, to host a Joint-Event in Brussels on December 9th to Usher in a Long-term Transition into a Third Industrial Revolution and Post-Carbon Society.

Brussels, Belgium (PRWEB) December 7, 2008 -- Günter Verheugen, Vice President of the European Commission and the Commissioner for Industry and Enterprise, representatives of the French Presidency of the European Council, Jeremy Rifkin, the Chairperson of the Third Industrial Revolution Global CEO Business Roundtable, and Presidents and CEOs of leading global corporations and trade associations representing the more than 90 companies in the Business Roundtable, will hold a conference on Tuesday, December 9th at 2:00 PM CET at the European Commission offices, followed by a press conference at 3:00 PM CET.

They will discuss cooperation between the EU and representatives of the international business community, with the goal of ushering in a Third Industrial Revolution in the European Union.

Both the EU and the US recovery plans call for a new green economy. The EU provides a comprehensive approach with it's emphasis on enhancing the competitiveness of European industry and at the same time establishing the four pillar foundation for a Third Industrial Revolution infrastructure: renewable energies; buildings as positive power plants; hydrogen storage; and the promotion of smart-grids and plug-in vehicles.

Triggered by a sound industrial foundation, the Third Industrial Revolution brings with it a new era in which millions of existing and new businesses and homeowners become energy players. In the process, we transition into a sustainable post-carbon era that can mitigate the effects of climate change on the Earth's biosphere.

It is the time of change. Existing industries will have to adjust to the challenge of a low carbon economy while new industries will emerge at the same time. This Third Industrial Revolution infrastructure will create millions of green jobs, jump start a new technology revolution, dramatically increase productivity, introduce new distributed "open source business models" and create vast new economic opportunities.

A future EU-US Third Industrial Revolution Partnership could serve as a lighthouse for similar economic recovery plans for countries around the world and be available to consult both the United Nations and the member-states in the discussions and negotiations leading up to the COP-15 United Nation's Climate Change Conference in December, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
